DESCRIPTION:ITA DIII National Women’s Team Indoor Championship\nPresented by Semmes-Murphy Medical Clinic\n\nFebruary 28-March 2\, 2025\nHosted by Sewanee: The University of The South at the Leftwich Tennis Center – Memphis\, TN \nWhat is the ITA?\nOriginally founded in 1956 by the legendary UCLA men’s tennis coach\, J. D. Morgan\, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) is the governing body of college tennis\, overseeing men’s and women’s varsity tennis at all levels – NCAA Divisions I\, II and III\, NAIA and Junior/Community College. Officially incorporated in 1978 as the Intercollegiate Tennis Coaches Association (ITCA)\, for over the past four decades the ITA has worked hard to achieve its charter goals: (1) “To foster and encourage the playing of intercollegiate tennis in accordance with the highest tradition of sportsmanship and consistent with the general objectives of higher education.” (2) “To develop among the intercollegiate coaches a deeper sense of responsibility in teaching\, promoting\, maintaining\, and conducting the game of tennis.” And\, (3) “To educate and serve those individuals and groups who are involved in collegiate tennis: junior and college players\, their coaches and parents\, and the at-large tennis public.”

SUMMARY:National Junior Tennis and Learning - Girls Program - Feb 28th
DESCRIPTION:​The USTA Foundation NJTL Essay Contest is held every year at National Junior Tennis and Learning Campuses across America and is open to students 18 and under who have participated in NJTL programming. \nThe NJTL Girls Program is a pilot program we are running in conjunction with USTA to help keep girls in sports. This 6 week class will take a dive into the obstacles that female\, teenage athletes face and how to be better prepared to handle them. We are holding the program on Fridays in the classroom at Leftwich from 5-6pm and the girls will have indoor court time afterwards. \nPlaying every Friday 5-6pm \nJan 21st through Mar 7th \nMarissa Kovach is leading the program. \nmkovach@tennismemphis.org
