Tennis Memphis

About Us

Tennis Memphis is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to building better communities and enhancing lives through tennis and education. Tennis Memphis provides youth programs after school and during the summer, as well as a comprehensive, year-round range of programming, including Junior Development, Tennis and Tutoring (TnT), free tennis clinics, outreach programs, and USTA programming for youth and adults. Tennis Memphis is one of two National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL) chapters in Tennessee and one of only 10 organizations nationwide selected as a USTA Community Impact Hub, working to create sustainable impact for Memphis youth and families from under-resourced communities. Tennis Memphis also currently manages seven City of Memphis public tennis centers: Bellevue, Eldon Roark in Whitehaven, Frayser, Leftwich, Raleigh, Wolbrecht, and Wooddale.

Tennis Memphis was founded in 2001 by Stephen Lang, who served as its
Executive Director for over 20 years. During his time at Tennis Memphis,
Stephen was dedicated to its mission and committed to advocacy, minority
participation, junior development, quality programming and growth of the sport
across our community. Under his leadership, Tennis Memphis was able to
partner with the City of Memphis to improve indoor and outdoor tennis courts
throughout the metro area, making tennis accessible to players of all ages
regardless of socioeconomic status. Tennis Memphis and Mr. Lang have also
increased community presence and awareness through partnerships with the
USTA and local foundations. Countless youth have been positively impacted
through our NJTL summer camps and free programming for after-school tennis
and tutoring. More information can be found in this document created in 2021.
